Rita Marseille received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and her law degree from Western State University, where she was on the Moot Court Board of Directors. After law school, Rita was an associate in Orange County insurance defense firms for five years. Then for six years, Rita was senior attorney and director of human resources for the Shoah Foundation, a prominent educational nonprofit foundation started by Steven Spielberg. Thereafter, seeking to return to litigation, Rita worked in two Orange County firms specializing in construction defense and the defense of long-term care facilities. Focusing on assisting skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities Rita has developed expertise representing clients in litigation, defending against claims of elder abuse, violation of patients' rights and fraud. Also, Rita has worked with facilities to implement uniform and integrated agreements that comply with regulations.
In 1992, Rita was admitted to the California State Bar. Rita is also admitted to the New Mexico Bar, and United States District Court for the Central District. Rita is a member of the Orange County Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, and American Health Lawyers Association.
Throughout her legal career, Rita has been active in various pro-bono efforts including the Orange County Public Law Center, the San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program, T.E,R.I., Inc., which serves individuals with developmental and learning disabilities in San Diego County, and the Fallbrook Food Pantry, which provides food to low income people, primarily children, women, and seniors. In 2002, Rita was a recipient of the State Bar’s Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono legal service.
